Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise conceived by George Lucas, later acquired by The Walt Disney Company, relegating many of the previous stories to 'Legends' (see How is canonicity of derivative works determined for Star Wars? to better understand how this affects Star Wars continuity). It is one of the highest-grossing film series in the United States. This film series has spawned other media including books, television series, video games, and comic books.

In series order, Episodes IV, V, and VI were released first, followed by the Episode I, II, and III prequels nearly 16 years later. Episode VII was released in December 2015, Episode VIII released in December 2017, and Episode IX was released in December 2019. The ongoing Star Wars Anthology film series tells stories adjacent to the main films. These include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016 and Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018.

Who is Anakin Skywalker's father?

In Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Anakin's mother, Shmi, said that he does not have a father, although it seemed to me that she doubted that. Is there a canonical answer as to who Anakin's father is? If so, who?

Why didn't Yoda and Obi-Wan kill Darth Vader and the Emperor? Why wait for Skywalker?

Given their fighting skills in the prequels, it seems odd that Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi should decide to wait for the Skywalker kids to grow up. Shortly after the Episode III, it seems like they could have dispatched Vader and the Emperor all by…

Why did Anakin lose against Obi-Wan in "Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith"?

In the climactic scene, where Obi-Wan and Anakin are dueling with their light-sabres across a wide range of platforms (moving rafts, on precarious ledges etc) without the slightest awkwardness - why is it that when Obi-Wan got a slightly higher…

Why does an X-Wing have this name when there is no "X" in the Aurebesh alphabet?

I was reading about Galactic Basic Standard, the standard language in Star-Wars. This lead me to the article about Aurebesh, the alphabet that is used to write it, and that is used all over the Star-Wars franchise. I noticed that there is no X…

Weren't there originally going to be nine Star Wars films?

I seem to remember reading that there were going to be three trilogies originally in Star Wars, i.e. they would add episodes 7 - 9. Was that ever the case? What happened to that plan? Update: looks like that original plan might be back after all!

Does it Matter if Han Shot First?

I'll admit my bias. One Wednesday afternoon in May of 1977, when Star Wars opened in my home town, I saw, with my own two eyes, Han Solo take the first shot and kill Greedo. I know this. I witnessed it, so there is no doubt in my mind that it is…

In Star Wars, C-3PO is a gold robot but his right leg is silver. Why is that? (Edit: the original question said that he had a silver leg "in some scenes". Apparently, that is incorrect.)

When Did George Lucas make up the stuff about the Sith and Midi-chlorians?

Those of us who saw all the Star Wars movies as they came out have a unique perspective that won't be repeated. We had a lot of time for the SW universe to gel in our minds as being one way before the prequels and books came out (other than a VERY…

If Obi-Wan and Yoda were trying to keep Luke safe from Vader, why would they let him keep the Skywalker name?

Obi-Wan and Yoda didn't really make a good effort at hiding him, especially considering they let Vader's family adopt him.
