Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction author, popular science writer, inventor, and futurist. With isaac-asimov and robert-a-heinlein, he was known as one of the "Big Three" of the Golden Age of science fiction.
Most of Clarke's fiction was hard science fiction, with rigorous physics. Space exploration was a common theme. His most famous works include:
- 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which a black monolith guides the evolution of man's intelligence. At the same time he wrote the novel, Clarke collaborated with Stanley Kubrik on the film of the same name. Clarke later wrote three sequels: 2010: Odyssey Two, 2061: Odyssey Three and 3001: The Final Odyssey.
- Rendezvous with Rama, in which mankind encounters an alien spaceship.
- The Fountains of Paradise, a novel about the construction of a space elevator.
