When our children are admitted to a special or private school, it is likely that our family members, friends etc will come to know about it. Why is this not true with Muggleborn wizards? When Muggleborns go off to an unknown school, and live a secretive life (for example, marrying another wizard), why don't the people around them know about this?

I suppose data on every individual is collected by the authorities of each country. Some of the Muggles know about witches and wizards, and wizards cannot be everywhere all the time to make sure that the Muggles aren't continuously sharing what they know about wizards with the other Muggles.

How do wizards make sure information about the Wizarding World is not revealed by Muggles?

  • I think you got confused when you tried to write your question, because some people may think you are talking about 'Why don't muggles know about Hogwarts'. – Izumi-reiLuLu Feb 08 '14 at 08:46
  • What do you think "OBLIVIATE" is for? – Valorum Feb 08 '14 at 09:38

  • If a person tells you they are a wizard and go to magic school; you (a) Believe them (b) call nearest mental hospital. Pick one. Oh, and that person can not demonste magic, or else they get punished and you get memory-wiped. – DVK-on-Ahch-To Feb 08 '14 at 16:52

  • I think the memory modification charms are being used, and I just can't recall the name but they have a special ministry department for it. – Rajan Jan 08 '16 at 16:11
