    You should be more specific about what you mean by "separate characters" and "Marvel universe". Does it count if two characters are meant to look or sound the same and are therefore played by the same actor? If so, do their appearances have to be permanent (twins, clones, etc) or temporary (shapeshifters, holographic disguises, etc)? Do voice only roles count (AIs, CG characters, animation)? By "marvel universe" do you mean the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or any performance media based on Marvel characters (Sony or Fox movies, animation, stage shows, etc)? – smithkm Dec 19 '15 at 01:27

Laura Haddock plays Peter Quill's mother, Meredith Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy), as well as a female fan of Captain America in the 1940's (Captain America: The First Avenger).

    @AlessandroSanfilippo, "Marvel Universe" in the question sounds rather like "Marvels Cinematic Universe" and the FF movies (neither the old ones nor the new ones) are part of that (as the MCU comprises properties Marvel has still the rights to, so this excludes FF, X-Men and a few other characters). Thinking laterally here, in any of the X-Men movies featuring Mystique, you'll find that several actors play her role in addition to their regular part in the same film - every time she disguises herself as one of the other characters.

Mahershala Ali played Cornell Stokes / Cottonmouth in Marvel's Luke Cage (2016) on Netflix. He voiced Aaron Davis / Prowler in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). He made a voice cameo as Blade in Eternals (2021). He is set to play Blade in a 2025 Blade film.

Benedict Cumberbatch played Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange (2016). He also played Dormammu (motion capture and voice) in the same film.

Cumberbatch also portrays, uncredited, the villainous entity Dormammu. The actor suggested he take on the role to Derrickson, feeling that having the character be a "horrific" reflection of Strange would work better than just "being a big ghoulish monster". The director agreed, elaborating that the casting implies that Dormammu does not have a normal physical form in his own dimension, and so is simply imitating Strange for their confrontation. To create the character, Cumberbatch provided motion-capture reference for the visual effects team, and his voice was blended with that of another uncredited British actor, whom Derrickson described as having "a very deep voice"

Hailee Steinfeld voiced Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman / Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and then played Kate Bishop in Hawkeye (2021). She reprised her role as Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).

Lake Bell voiced Vanessa Fisk in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in Season 1 of What If...? (2021 TV series), and then played Dr. Graham in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).

Brian Tyree Henry voiced Jefferson Davis in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and reprised his role in subsequent Spider-Verse films featuring the character. He played Phastos / Phil Stoss in The Eternals (2021).
