I understand that the tribe of Levi were Priests, and the tribe of Benjamin were solders (Slingers to be more specific). But is there a general trait that is distinguished in each of the twelve (12) tribes of Israel?

Why do we not know which tribe we are from
Some people are from the tribe of Levi. But no one today knows which tribe they are from. Why is this? Even if you say the 10 exiled tribes were lost. They still had people from each tribe in Israel.
