This tag pertains to questions about the subject of Chukot Hagoyim or Darkei Haemori, i.e., following the ways of the non-Jews.
Three verses in the Torah form the basis of the prohibition of following the ways and customs of the non-Jews (also known as "Darkei Haemori" or "Hukot Hagoyim"):
"You shall not copy the practices of the land of Egypt where you dwelt, or of the land of Canaan to which I am taking you; nor shall you follow their laws." (Leviticus 18:3); "You shall not follow the practices of the nation that I am driving out before you..." (ibid. 20:23); "Beware of being lured into their ways after they have been wiped out before you! Do not inquire about their gods, saying, “How did those nations worship their gods? I too will follow those practices.”" (Deuteronomy 12:30)
