Can מתיהדים, descendants of converts to Judaism, sit on a bayt din for giyyur for a Yisrael, an Israelite, who has lost proof of their Jewish ancestry?

  • I'm confused. Aren't מתיהדים converts (e.g. usage in Esther)? And their descendants are regular Yisraelim. – Harel13 Mar 20 '24 at 21:17

I'm not sure what you are getting at with the term מתיהדים... my impression is that sometimes it has the connotation of those that feign allegiance to Judaism... or those that have adopted Jewish practices without converting? What do you mean when you use the term? – Deuteronomy Mar 20 '24 at 21:19

    Their descendants are regular Yisra'Elim @Harel13 ?

    They have no land allotment.

    No land allotment.

None of the links show that the term מתיהדים refers to descendants of converts. So far you seem to be the only person who uses it in that manner. In any case, what would land allotment have to do with a conversion court? – Harel13 Mar 20 '24 at 22:04
  • Can people who have no land allotment sit on a bayt din for one who does? – הראל Mar 20 '24 at 22:14
  • Not a dupe @TamirEvan My question is about the very specific case of descendants of converts and a 🩸 blood-blood Yisra'EL. – הראל Mar 20 '24 at 22:49
  • @הראל "Not a dupe" Then you should edit your question to clarify why your case might be treated differently [than the one in the other question]. – Tamir Evan Mar 29 '24 at 07:41
