Many people hold that an esrog can be checked with the naked eye, but in practice many people use a magnifying glass.

Did the saintly Chofetz Chaim zy”a use a magnifying glass when inspecting his own esrog for succos?

    My bet is that he didn’t, based on his own comments in Mishnah Berurah 648:46 where he says that disqualifications that can only be seen by a magnifying glass don’t disqualify it. – DonielF Oct 13 '19 at 20:13
