The sacred thread worn by some Hindus. Called yajñopavītam (यज्ञोपवीतम्) in Sanskrit, it the symbolizes the ability of the wearer to perform Sandhyavandanam and recite the Gayatri Mantra.

On what occasions can sacred thread be worn around the neck like garland?

Sacred thread or Yagnobaveetha usually worn over the left shoulder and under the right arms, but on some special occasions, it can/ should be worn around the neck like a garland(Niviti position).

During what daily/mundane activities is the Yajnopavitam to be removed?

First of all this is not a duplicate of this question I am not asking about permanent removal of the sacred thread, but in what daily activities is this to be removed ? Is it to be removed prior to ablutions, bathing, sleeping, procreation etc…
