Bhāgavata Purāṇa, also known as Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahā Purāṇa, Śrīmad Bhāgavataṃ and Bhāgavata is one of the major puranic texts of Hinduism with its focus on bhakti towards Vishnu.

The Bhagavata Purana which is also famously known as Srimad Bhagavatam and Srimad Bhagavata Maha Purana is one of the 18 major Puranas, written by Sage Vyasa. Its main theme is devotion towards Lord Vishnu and his various incarnations.

It is composed of 12 skandhas and 18000 verses. Amongst the 12 skandhas, the 10th skandha is the longest and the most famous. It contains the Gopi Geeta, the rasa-lila, and many other incidents related to the youthful years of Lord Krishna.

It was narrated to Sage Shukha, by Sage Vyasa; to Sage Shaunaka (and others) by Sage Suta; to King Parikshit by Sage Shukha.
