If someone gives alms (Donation/charity) in form of anything. If his intention is to get merit. Then will he actually get merit out of that karma?

Well the recipient is not aware of the intentions of the giver, but whatever are the intentions of the giver, he will get positive points for that, if not 100% then not even 0%. – Just_Do_It Sep 11 '17 at 13:00

Yes, if your intention is getting merit then you will get it.

Manu Smriti 4.234. For whatever purpose (a man) bestows any gift, for that same purpose he receives (in his next birth) with due honour its (reward).

But you should make sure that the recipient is worthy of receiving gifts. Also, one should never boast of the act after donating something.

Manu Smriti 4.237. By falsehood a sacrifice becomes vain, by self-complacency (the reward for) austerities is lost, longevity by speaking evil of Brahmanas, and (the reward of) a gift by boasting.

  • Is it mentioned in scriptures that he will receive results in next birth?? – C Sharper Sep 12 '17 at 04:08
  • Yes, just as is mentioned in the given verse. In some other verses which describes what is obtained upon gifting some particular thing, it is simply mentioned that he will receive this and that in return of gifting this and that. Nothing specified as to when he will get the returns. IMO, some returns are obtained in this life whereas some in next lives @CSharper – Rickross Sep 12 '17 at 04:51
  • if our intention is getting merit , than still we get 100% merit or less than that ? 2) if our intention is not getting merit , than still we get 100% merit or more than that ?

  • Yes 100% u will get. 2) This is called Nishkama Karma which is done without the desires of getting the fruits. This leads to destruction of Karmas and eventually leads to Moksha. @USer345738380

  • @Rickross what i thought is if our intention is getting merit , than we don't get 100% merit [ may be 60-70 %] & also thought if our intention is not to get merit , than we will get 100% merit.... thanks....... – USer345738380 Apr 26 '18 at 05:00
  • No I think u are confused.. whatever ur intention is u'll get that.. if u do not expect anything in return that's the best Karma one can do.. that does not give merit but what it does is destroy merits and demerits both.. when there is merit there is rebirth when there is demerit then also there is rebirth but no rebirth when all Karmas have been destroyed@USer345738380 – Rickross Apr 26 '18 at 05:31
