Viśiṣṭādvaita is one of the most popular school of Vedanta philosophy

Ādvaita can easily incorporate Formless Brahman because they believe that Brahman is without attributes, and Form is an attribute.

On the other hand, Viśiṣṭādvaita believes in Realism (asti, asti), that everything including illusions are real, because the illusory object has some common properties with the thing imagined like snake and rope have some common properties and one can easily mistake snake for a rope in dim light or pitch dark.

This means that the attributes are also real and Brahman has attributes. There is a widespread misconception that anything with attributes cannot be formless.

Question :

How does Viśiṣṭādvaita incorporate formless Brahman, with Realism?

    Formless and No attributes are two different entities. Brahman can be with attributes and be formless. Nirguna and Nirakara are two different terms. – The Destroyer Apr 26 '17 at 07:19

  • I have heard of a simple answer to this question - being formless is also a form. in Tamil, as I heard it, "Aruvamum oru Uruvam". This I have heard from a Srivaishnava scholar. Don't exactly remember which one. Will try to find out. – Ambi Jan 14 '19 at 12:31
