I recently acquired a stand-alone electric kettle which requires a minimum of half a liter of water in it to start a cycle. That's far more water than I need for my cuppa.
So I have three choices:
- Fill the water to the half-liter mark each time, emptying out the kettle (maybe into a potted plant or two) after using as much as I need
- Top off the water to the half-liter mark each time
- Fill the water to the max line, keep re-boiling it every time I need boiling water, and refill it only when it gets below the min mark.
I have heard that boiling water for too long can cause it to de-aerate and so make the tea taste flat. If that's true, option 3 sounds like a bad idea. Also, it probably wastes both time and electricity to keep re-boiling large quantities of water. So I'm wondering whether I should be defaulting to the first option? Or is the second one okay?
Or does it not matter at all? There are no discernible adverse effects to the taste of water if it's boiled over and over again?
