Will playing with a PF train motor by hand damage it?

If one pushes a PF-motorized train by hand, will it cause damage to the motor, or any of the other parts (IR Receiver, Battery box)? It is essentially working as a generator when turned by hand, so will that current damage it?

How can I place a motor in the middle of a Technic beam with an odd number of holes?
