Northern Coast (Peru)

The Northern Coast region of Peru includes the departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Ancash. It offers many archaeological sites, beaches, surfing, and thermal baths.

• 🌍 Casma — a city near Chanquillo, an archaeological site dated to the 4th century BC that is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO
• 🌍 Chimbote — the largest fishing port in the world, it also has some excellent seafood restaurants
• 🌍 Puerto Malabrigo — known by surfers for having the world's longest left hand wave
• 🌍 Chiclayo — a lively city with several archeological sites and museums
• 🌍 Los Organos — a very quiet and tranquil beach town
• 🌍 Piura — one of the best places to eat in Perú, especially for the ceviche
• 🌍 Sechin — close to Cerro Sechin archeological site
• 🌍 Sullana — provincial capital with nice weather
• 🌍 Talara — port and oil town, with an airport, petrified trees and an abundance of other fossils
• 🌍 Trujillo — close to archaeological sites of the Chimu civilization
• 🌍 Tumbes — a gritty town, gateway to beaches, mangroves and national parks
• 🌍 Zorritos — it has thermal baths and beaches

• 🌍 Aguas Verdes — across the border from Huaquillas, Ecuador)
• 🌍 Máncora — a small beach resort close to Ecuador
• 🌍 Huanchaco — surfing and fishing village just north of Trujillo

The border crossing at the coast with Ecuador is near the border town of Aguas Verdes (Peru) and Huayaquillas (Ecuador). There are several international buses which make the crossing and wait at the immigration office.

The Ruta nacional PE-1 begins, which is the Peruvian section of the Pan-American Highway, is completely asphalted. It runs along the entire coast from Aguas Verdes at the Ecuadorian border, passing through Lima and end after Tacna at the border crossing with Chile called Santa Rosa.

In Talara, electricity uses a mixture of 110 V at 60 Hz and 220 V at 60 Hz.
