While honoring the traditional story element of the murder of billionaire Bruce Wayne's parents at the hands of a petty thug, the film redevelops the Bruce Wayne story in such a way that he becomes an alumnus of the League of Shadows and the pupil of Ra's al Ghul (Liam Neeson). At odds with Ra's al Ghul's methods, Bruce returns to Gotham and uses his new skills to become the Batman, making organized crime in Gotham his primary target.
However, Bruce soon learns that he has not seen the last of the League of Shadows.
