I had my Nikon D7000 on single-point auto focus and it just would not focus on the spots I wanted. I have marked the spots that could not be focused on with red circles, and the parts that could be focused on with green circles. I was using a…

ND Filter not Dense enough - How do I get long exposures in very bright situations, where my ND filter isn't enough?

What is the best way to achieve very long exposures in very bright, sunlit conditions? Right now, I have a Hoya ND-400 X filter (9 stops reduction), and even with my camera set to ISO 50, and F22, my exposures are still in the range of 5-30…

What is the philosophical justification generally accepted by photographers on why they should be able to profit privately over public property?

Say someone takes a picture of Lord Nelson's statue in Trafalgar Square at dusk, and sells on his website for profit. Is it not arguable that people would not buy it if it weren't a statue of a famous historical figure, and thus the end product is…

What are the benefits of the classic f-number scheme?

Classic ƒ numbers are entrance pupil diameter as a fraction of focal length. This seems like a slightly strange choice as exposure is proportional to area rather than diameter. Naively I would think it easier work with these as exposure stops from…

Why aren't faces sharp in my f/1.8 portraits even though I'm carefully using center-point autofocus?

I love my Canon Rebel T6 and take portrait pictures in Av mode with a 50mm in 1.8 Av. I'm using auto focus in the 'focus on center point' mode. I make sure that the center point focuses on the face so the face should be the sharpest part of the…

Yesterday I took photos of an event at school. The lighting was poor so I increased the iso to 3200, shutter speed was between 80 and 250 and the aperture between 2.8 and 4.0. Canon EOS500 about 10% of the photos got this weird horizontal black…
