- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 October 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseDo you love acronyms (abbreviations formed from the initial letters of other words)? Then congrats, because this book is a goldmine of CBT, DBT, and everything in between. It's like someone took all those motivational Instagram quotes and added real, practical step-by-step guides to actually make them useful. Angry about losing your parking spot? There's a skill for that. Stressed by your boss emailing on a Sunday? There's a breathing exercise for that too. It's practical, straightforward, and full of real-life tools, like a therapist decided to cut the fluff and just give us the serious techniques we need. The Decider Flowchart is simple and easy to follow, it lays out a clear path from feeling overwhelmed to finding a sense of calm. Sure, it can be a bit repetitive at times, yes, we get it, breathing is important, but that's kind of the point. And no, there’s no magic cure for Monday mornings (sorry), but it does help make them slightly less awful with some radical acceptance tips. Just know that you actually have to do the exercises; this isn't one of those "just read and be better" books. Bottom line: if you're tired of fluffy pep talks and want real tools to level up your coping skills, this one's for you. It's practical, effective, and honestly a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to genuinely improve their coping skills.
Deciding to help yourself is the hardest part, but this book makes the rest surprisingly doable.
I cannot stress this enough, if you are here and reading this review you've already taken the most important step which is to seek help/advice. Just buy the book!!
